A newly released white paper makes the case that Tucson optics space is the best place to join a thriving photonics industry hub.
Dozens of businesses thrive in Tucson optics space, so much so that they make up two-thirds of the membership of Optics Valley, a committee of the Arizona Technology Council.
This strength in the optics industry demonstrates why site selectors in photonics startups, expansions and relocations would do well to consider the Southwestern city of Tucson, Arizona to do business.
That’s the conclusion of a new white paper, “Tucson, Arizona: Arizona’s Optics Advantage,” released by Commercial Real Estate Group of Tucson. Its information-rich 13 pages detail the benefits of securing Tucson optics space or photonics space for operations.
One of the major Tucson attractions for optics- and photonics-related businesses is the renowned University of Arizona (UA) College of Optical Sciences.
“There are approximately 75 tenured, or tenure-track, faculty and senior researchers, as well as over 40 joint appointments with other colleges such as astronomy, engineering and medicine,” according to the white paper.
“The college educates more students in optics than any institution in the United States, so it’s easy to see why a skilled and highly expert workforce is something that attracts new or expanding companies.”
There are several other UA-related resources, including Tech Launch Arizona, Arizona Tech Parks, the Arizona Center for Innovation and the BIO5 Institute. They all translate research into application and commercialization opportunities.
AZ Tech Council’s Optics Valley helps connect businesses, researchers and investors to create a robust commercialization ecosystem.
The white paper provides resources that help business owners find Tucson optics space for their operations, as well as investment partners. There’s discussion about Tucson’s attractive lifestyle and the U.S. optics industry.
A list of 22 photonics companies provide a small look into the depth and breadth of the Tucson optics industry. They include Arizona Optical Systems, Breault Research Organization, Edmund Optics, Hextek Corp and Photonics Automation Specialists.
Optics Valley representatives at SPIE Photonics West 2019 will distribute the white paper. It also is available on the CREG Tucson website or by contacting Michael Coretz, 1-520-299-3400 or michael@cretucson.com.
A summary of the white paper called “Market Snapshot: Optics Industry” also is available on the CREG Tucson website.
