Tucson’s tenant representation firm plans to follow the governor’s footsteps in attracting business to the state.
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer had the right idea when she went to Europe in late May to attract businesses to move to our state.
Commercial Real Estate Group of Tucson is doing our own economic development mission when we attend a Sept. 12 gathering of European companies interested in locating in North, Central and South America.
Changes in Business Expansion Efforts
The symposium’s corporate panel will cover changes in business expansion logistics and site selection factors that have emerged from the slumping economy of recent years.
Property availability, build-to-suit, leasing-versus-owning and other topics will be discussed by executives from Mars Petcare, Mozilla Corp., Skanska Commercial Development USA, Viacom, Whirlpool and Pollina Corporate Real Estate.
Pitching Our Story
An economic development panel will detail certain regions’ labor availability and costs, transportation capabilities, taxation and other factors that companies use to decide where to locate facilities in the Western Hemisphere.
Arizona isn’t part of the panel, which includes agencies from Utah, Missouri, Pennsylvania; Ontario, Canada; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Colombia; Mexico, and Panama. In fact, we and our colleague in Phoenix solely make up the Arizona delegation.
But we expect to meet with site selection decision-makers who are expressly interested in Arizona. Networking sessions also will allow us to pitch our business-friendly story to anyone who will listen.
We’re getting some help from TREO, Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Inc. Our area’s economic development agency is providing us with brochures that tout Southern Arizona as a hub for several key industries: aerospace and defense, transportation and logistics, bioscience and solar energy.
In her trip, Gov. Brewer met with government agencies and companies in Paris and Berlin to discuss trade and tourism possibilities.
We plan to complement that effort by meeting with corporate executives from throughout the continent and the world who already are exploring expansion into our region. We will do our part to get more businesses to come to Tucson and Arizona.
If you’re interested in helping us tell the Arizona story to European businesses and their site selectors, contact Commercial Real Estate Group of Tucson and let’s talk.
